New’s title:  Fast sea level rise is a very recent change.

Date of publication:  February the 16th, 2015

Source of information: Student Society for Science:

Scientific field: Weather and climate

Extract:
Recent studies show how much faster oceans have been rising in the last 20 years than in the many years before that.  Sea levels are making nuisance flooding more common in places like Annapolis. People who live along coastlines need good predictions for how much sea levels will rise in the future.

Critical appraisal:
This article reveals the enormous problematic related to global warming and the greenhouse effect, because it is the problem of  the rise sea levels.
In the first place, I’d like to say that throughout history, people have put out tide gauges to track sea levels.  Placed along coastlines, they record the water’s eight.
Secondly, I think that we should take more care of our planet. In the article said that most scientists suspected glacial melt and thermal expansion had been underestimated.
Her team assume different parts of the oceans and they would show different amounts of sea levels rise depending on these factors.  One reason is that there were more tide gauges during this period. Scientists also started to use satellite measurements during this period because it were quite accurate.
Finally, that suggests that what is driving the rise is climate change, also has increased dramatically in recent years.
