Date of publication:  24 of February, 2015
Source of information:  Student Society for Science:

Scientific field: Animals, Environment and pollution

Extract: Platypus is threatened by a number of factors. One threat is that’s is being the lunch of cats and foxes. In Autralia, vulnerable animals have  weighed a mere 35 grams to 5.5 Kilograms. In the world, are disappearing large mammals.

Critical appraisal:

First, I’d like to explain that in Australia, many mammals also  have very few young. In many  places, herbivores such as cattle and sheep, have  been reduced plant cover.
Secondly, Woinarski said that cats and foxes are very efficient hunters and they can  also vary their diet depending on prey availability. When one species is gone , they can switch emerges in a second new study.
To sum up, controlling cats and foxes population would be a long problem to protect Autralian’s mammals. Some of the efforts to reduce the number of foxes have been success.  Some people that are efforts with cats said that the effort to control feral cats might had unwanted impacts on pets cats.
